Department of Human Coexistence Design

By combining six areas of specialization—sociology, psychology, welfare studies, architecture and design, international studies, and management and business—and tackling real-world issues facing communities and workplaces in Japan and abroad through fieldwork, we train graduates who can think about coexistence from a variety of angles and work together with a diverse range of people.

In partnership with local communities, universities, and companies both in Japan and overseas, students take on real social issues alongside people in the field through fieldwork and internships starting as early as their second year.

In addition, the Faculty of Human Coexistence’s cross-departmental program, the “Global Coexistence Program,” offers a systematic curriculum of courses in international society and economics, cross-cultural understanding, and English, centered around an overseas training program in Malaysia. Students develop the ability to communicate in English and collaborate with a diverse range of people both in Japan and abroad, while also aiming to improve their TOEIC® scores. Students who complete the required courses will be awarded an open badge for the Global Coexistence Program.
