The goal of the Department of English Language and Literature is for students to thoroughly explore and understand the English language over a four-year course. The first and second years are spent strengthening fundamental English skills and aiming to improve the four technical skills of English. Then, the third and fourth years are spent studying two specialties (English linguistics and education, and English-speaking culture and literature).
In order to gain true English ability, it is necessary to understand the language, spirit, culture, history, and climate of English-speaking countries and their peoples. Deepening that kind of understanding can also help cultivate intelligence, a wider field of vision, and deep sensitivity.
The Department of English Language and Literature emphasizes the seminars held in the third and fourth years. The seminars are done in small groups and require active learning. Students must present their work based on independent research. The Department of English Literature offers many varied and fulfilling courses to provide students with the opportunity to start using their mastery of English to broaden and deepen their career possibilities and their enjoyment of life.
