Eligibility
Prospective students are eligible to apply as international students (as set out in Article 2 Paragraph 1 of the Otsuma Women’s University International Students Regulations) if they are non-Japanese nationals, meet at least one of the following criteria listed below, and have obtained, or will obtain, a “Student” visa prior to their enrollment, as designated by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
- The applicant has completed 12 years of formal education in another country.
- The applicant has passed an academic qualification exam demonstrating academic ability equivalent or superior to 12 years of formal education in another country. In this case, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age by March 31, 2025.
- The applicant has passed through an education system that is less than 12 years in length, and has completed pre-university preparatory institutions, as designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
- The applicant has completed formal education in Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Belarus, Peru, Myanmar and Russia, as designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
- The applicant has obtained one of the following qualifications:
- International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB)
- Abitur
- Baccalaureate
- General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-level)
OR
The applicant has completed 12 years of formal education at institutions accredited by international accreditation agencies (WASC, CIS, ACSI, Cognia).
- The applicant is recognized individually by Otsuma Women’s University as having qualifications equivalent or superior to 1–5 stated above. In this case, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age by March 31, 2025.
■ Application Requirements
Prospective students are eligible to apply as international students if they meet, or are expected to meet, at least one of the eligibility criteria listed above. The applicant must be female and satisfy all the following requirements:
- The applicant must obtain a “Student” visa, as designated by the Immigration Control and Refugee Recognition Act.
- The applicant must demonstrate competence in the Japanese language, which is needed for daily life and academic success in college.
- The applicant must have a guarantor residing in Japan, who is of legal age, has some form of income, and assumes all responsibilities for the applicant, including payment of tuition and fees.
*If you plan to submit your application for the entrance exam II, you must have already obtained a “Student” visa.

■Admissions Process
- The overall suitability for admission will be considered based on an essay, a personal interview, transcripts, and application documents.
- A personal interview with the applicant will be conducted by several faculty members. The interview will focus on the applicant’s reasons for seeking admission, aptitude for the field of study, and basic academic skills.
- Some departments/majors may use the TOEFL®iBT, the TOEIC®, or Japanese language proficiency certificates issued by the testing institutions designated by the departments to make admission decisions. Some departments/majors may exempt the applicant from writing an essay based on these test scores.
